Making the decision to see a psychologist can feel daunting. However, it is the first step that you will take to getting the support that you need to face and tackle your issues. Please read on to find out more about how I can help.
Modern life can be challenging as we have multiple responsibilities, demands and pressures on us. It can feel overwhelming and distressing when we experience chronic or work-related stress, depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties or bereavement. Therapy offers a safe space to meet with and talk to a professional who will listen with empathy and non-judgementally. You can express your thoughts and feelings freely and in confidence in the therapy space.
Trouble with a relationship; anxiety or panic attacks; mood swings or depression - many people face difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to handle and manage. Counselling can help you gain a better understanding of what is causing these problems and consider ways to move towards managing or resolving them.
Working together I can help you gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you understand why you act or react the way you do, and see how you can start to make better choices moving forward.
People come to me for help on a wide range of issues. Here are some common difficulties that clients experience:
Feelings of stress or anxiety
Panic attacks
Relationship problems
Grief, loss or bereavement
Problems with addiction
Trauma and post-traumatic stress
Abuse
Depression
Problems with confidence or self-esteem
Anger management
Health issues
Work related stress
Life transitions
Problems with family or university life
Life brings many challenges, and it is understandable that at times we might need support to face them. As a psychologist my role is to come alongside you on your journey of self-discovery; to enable you to examine your life and make new, meaningful choices.
You will have a chance to reflect on the difficulties or problems you are experiencing in a safe and confidential environment, with someone from outside your day-to-day life. Together we can explore your situation in a way that leads to fresh perspectives - and perhaps a new understanding of yourself. Therapy is not about giving you solutions or advice, but empowering you to make your own choices.
As a psychologist, I work from an existential approach, which is a philosophical approach to exploring and understanding human issues. At the core of the work is a focus on engaging with a person’s subjective experience and a search for understanding and meaning. An existential therapeutic approach provides a way of understanding human issues without medicalising them. My aim is to explore your experiences in a receptive and open manner.
